Essential Oil Tip: Thyme Oil to Support your Liver

"Not long ago, I was up at around 2 AM with what promised to be a raging urinary tract infection. Anyone who has ever had one of these infections knows that they are not fun. The symptom are frequency of urination, accompanied by a burning sensation. After getting up every few minutes, I finally gathered up my blanket and pillow and perched myself on the throne. In a few minutes, my husband came into the bathroom with the thyme and lavender oils and told me to rub them in on my abdomen. Ten minutes later I was able to go back to bed and sleep the rest of the night. Now that's powerful!" Karen C. Surprise, AZ

Thyme oil (Thymus vulgaris L.) is not only good for battling infectious diseases, but it is very supportive to your liver, and it can help to strengthen your body's ability to produce glutathione levels that decrease with age.

Dr. Ray Sahelian states that glutathione deficiency contributes to oxidative stress, which may play a key role in aging and the worsening of many diseases including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, liver disease, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, HIV, AIDS, cancer, heart attack, and diabetes.

He also says that glutathione is a powerful antioxidant found within every cell. Glutathione plays a role in nutrient metabolism, and regulation of cellular events (including gene expression, DNA and protein synthesis, cell growth, and immune response).

Many "anti-aging" professionals work on getting glutathione levels up, including D. Gary Young; the founder of Young Living.

Young Living offers an excellent product named Longevity™ softgels, that includes the essential oil of Thyme and other essential oils that rank among the most powerful antioxidants known. Antioxidants are elements that help to neutralize free radicals and lessen the day-to-day oxidative damage we are all subject to. Antioxidants are thought to protect the skin by attaching themselves to free radicals, which minimizes the harm they do.

An additional, amazing tip for your liver: Avocado
Avocados are another great food for your liver (read why below). They were once a luxury food reserved for the tables of royalty, but now California avocados are enjoyed around the world by people from all walks of life.

Here are some avocado facts:

  • They are a fruit not a vegetable

  • Sodium and cholesterol free

  • Have 5 grams of good fat

  • California produces about 90% of the nation's avocado crop

  • San Diego County is the Avocado Capital of the U.S., producing 60% of all the avocados grown in California.

  • California avocados rank among the lowest of all fruits and vegetables for pesticide use

Why they are good for your liver?

Avocados are a good source of glutathione. Glutathione is made up of amino acids that function as antioxidants and are very supportive to the liver. Glutathione levels decrease with age therefore it is beneficial to get natural sources of glutathione when possible. (See Essential Oil Tip above for other ways to increase glutathione)

There are currently 62 published articles on Thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) at PubMed; a service of the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health. To learn more about research on the effects of thyme oil, click here

Young Living Balsam Fir Harvest

2009 Balsam Fir Harvest: Once again our Founder and President, Gary Young, was on the front lines to ensure Young Living essential oils are the purest and most potent available—he recently wrapped up a successful balsam fir harvest in northern Idaho!

There he employed the help of many Young Living employees and distributors, and his commitment to the Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ standard was evident as he oversaw every step of the harvest. We've created a short video for you to enjoy that highlights some of the action:

Those who participated in this rare opportunity commented on the importance of Gary's hands-on involvement in the oil-sourcing process. General Manager of the Americas, Mike McLean, was thrilled to be a part of the hard work and dedication that Gary demands for his oils:

"Gary made sure that everyone got to be personally involved in each step of the harvesting process," says Mike. "From cutting trees to loading trucks, we all got to experience everything that goes into a batch of balsam fir oil."

Most important to Mike was the positive teamwork that surrounded the event: "It was amazing to feel the spirit of teamwork as distributors, corporate employees, and farm employees worked long hours in cold, tough conditions, never once complaining or losing steam."

The harvest took place on Young Living's Balsam Farm in northern Idaho, just a few miles south of the Canadian border. Sustainable growing practices are of utmost importance to Gary, and he resolves that nature be left in better shape than when the harvest began. That's why he insists on replanting the harvested area with optimal spacing between trees to protect against forest fires and ground erosion.

The fir tree—commonly known as the Christmas tree—is renowned for its benefits to the respiratory system, as well as its ability to soothe over-worked muscles and joints. The balsam fir essential oil recently harvested is exclusive to Young Living and contains optimal levels of four important constituents: alpha pineane, beta pineane, camphene, and limonene, which give it many of its soothing characteristics.

Balsam fir lends its soothing qualities to a variety of Young Living products, such as:

The balsam fir essential oil harvested at this event has already been tested, bottled, and we are happy to announce that products containing balsam fir are back online and in stock!

Gary's hands-on approach during this and other harvests in Ecuador, France, and Utah is what sets Young Living apart from everyone else. Not only do we ensure that the purest, most potent essential oils are harvested and distilled on our own farms, but our sourcing specialists also routinely visit our suppliers to share their expert knowledge. This continued commitment to quality ensures Young Living’s status as the world leader in essential oils.

Energize - Fortify - Replenish - Ningxia red

In his own words, Orest V. Pelachaty, Short Hills New Jersey.

“As a Doctor of Oriental Medicine I am very concerned about the quality of any herbs or foods which my patients choose to put into their bodies. I am so happy to be able to recommend Young Living products as I know that they are the cleanest and most wholesome available. Ningxia Red is a great breakthrough. This allows anyone to access the benefits of Wolfberries anytime; just by grabbing a juice packet.

The amazing Wolfberry is a powerhouse of beneficial nutrients and healing compounds for the body. No wonder that this little red fruit has been venerated by the Asian peoples for thousands of years and is classified within their herbal pharmacopias (medical textbooks) as a “Superior Medicine”, that is one which has profound effects on our health yet has no toxic side effects.

Oriental Medicine has been a literate, professional system of health care practiced for almost 2,000 years as verified by historical literature. Of course the roots of this medical tradition itself are much, much older, going back to the dawn of Chinese civilization. It is my honor to have been a practitioner of this wonderfully safe and holistic model of health care for 20 fulfilling years.

I have used these Wolfberries (called Lycium barbatum Fructus) for two decades now as a super food for my patients. Since most of my patients are not Asian, it was a new thing for them to try these ‘red raisins’ as a snack. They would smile with surprise to find that they are very tasty and not nearly as sweet as dried grapes, which are too sugary and can feed organisms such as bacteria and yeasts. Because so many of my patients have been exposed to years of stress and have been abused by chemical drugs whether from prescriptions, over the counter, or from eating non-organic meats and dairy – they often have problems with fungus (such as Candida). Well, the delicious Wolfberries are a treat for them, because they can eat something tasty, sweet, and nutritious and yet not get any of those ‘sugar reaction’ problems such as bloating, headaches, hypoglycemia and energy drops.

Traditionally Lycium has been called the Fruit of the Matrimony Vine, and in Chinese herbal medicine this has been helpful for Tonifying (strengthening) the Liver and Kidney systems. These two systems are energetically responsible for human fertility, keeping or regaining strong clear vision, and slowing the aging process. Therefore in Chinese culture Wolfberries are often given as a gift of filial piety to one’s parents and teachers as a sign of respect. Such a gift (the plumper and redder the berry the better) means ‘we wish you a long and healthy life’.
With time pressure being an epidemic for many people it is hard to remember to take good care of oneself, so having such convenience is a great boost. Of the 16 types of Wolfberries produced commercially in China, only the ones from Ningxia have the fullest spectrum of health benefits. Of course it is no surprise that Young Living would choose only these for the juice, along with synergist juices.

As a clinician I see the power of combining several herbs into a formula, so that the effect is stronger than the sum of the parts. This is what happens with the juices blended into Ningxia Red. It is the wise consumer, and more and more of my patients, who are reaping the harvest of improved health and vitality from this “Master Blend”.

Orest V. Pelachaty, received his degree of Oriental Medical Doctor in 1986 from the California Acupuncture College subsequent to his 1985 Master Degree from Trisate College of Acupuncture. He holds a BA in Psychology from Rutgers Univesity is nationally certified in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. He lives with his wife, Sue Short Hills New Jersey.

Rose Oil Suggestion and Reminder

I just read a fascinating suggestion on how to use the precious rose oil. Rose Oil is getting more attention than usual this month because of the amazing offer from Young Living where you can get a bottle free ($180 Value). Let me tell ya that is one very valuable offer.

Take a few minutes and read this idea for Rose Oil. I love it and think you will too. I just received my bottle of rose oil and will be trying this idea in the next couple of days as soon as I have the proper container.

Rose Oil is Complely Intoxicating

I noticed this post from a person in the essential oils group I belong and felt it important to share. Rose Oil distilled by Young Living Essential Oils is fairly rare and some use the word expensive.... but this method of using this remarkable oil has it lasting about a year. Why pay attention? Rose oil has the highest frequencies of all oils. We are all energy. Learn about frequencies.

Young Living has an amazing offer for the month of August 2009, where you can receive a bottle of rose oil free with an order of $350 or more. Not bad when you consider a bottle of Rose Oil is $180!

Here's the Suggestion for Rose Oil:

I wanted to share my most favorite way to use the rose oil which i have shared with many people in my group and have done so myself for years.

Warning Completely intoxicating!

I use an empty Ningxia Red juice glass bottle. (Comment: what is important about this is the size of the bottle and that it is glass. The size is 32oz.) I add 2 drops of Rose oil and fill it up with good clean water and swish it around and sip it slowly.

I personally experience that it moves me quickly and easily into this state of self love and this sweet opened hearted place that is obvious, tangible and lasts! Before I run out of it, I fill it up again with water. I can usually fill it up 5 or 6 times before it runs out and it will still be potent and effective. I hardly ever use it topically and this also makes my rose oils last and last for a very long time!

DELICIOUS!!!!

Try it, its the best of the best! Great to drink for both people on a romantic evening, great to drink during a meditation retreat, great to drink if you need to have a challenging dialogue and just plain great to drink.

Rose Oil Is One Amazing and Exclusive Product

Lavender Essential Oil Uses and Benefits

Young Living sent out a newsletter today with some great info on the uses and benefits of Lavender that I just wanted to share with you. They have some great products made from lavender oils as well.

Rediscovering Lavender Lavender Series

Lavender is one essential oil that can be used in every home, and this month it's all about rediscovering its many uses! Young Living's lavender is a more natural alternative to many store-bought products, and once you begin using it around the house you'll wonder how you ever survived without it.

One of the first natural remedies to be reintroduced to Western culture, today lavender is used for everything from calming the mind to soothing irritated skin. Here are a few quick and easy ways to incorporate its benefits into your daily routine:

Relaxation

* Massage lavender into the back of the neck or bottom of the feet for relaxation.
* Add a few drops of lavender to your bath water for a relaxing soak.
* Diffuse lavender before bed to quiet the mind and prepare for sleep.

Skincare

* Soothe minor burns by applying 2–3 drops to the affected area.
* Rub several drops onto the scalp area to help soothe minor irritations.
* Reduce or minimize scar tissue by massaging it on or around affected areas.
* Apply 2–3 drops to relieve itching and soothe skin.

You may have seen other lavender-like products that promise the same benefits as true lavender essential oil. However, these synthetic products merely duplicate the aroma of lavender, and cannot offer the health-enhancing benefits of Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ lavender.

We offer a full line of safe, effective skincare products, each an ideal alternative to the perfume-grade lavender found elsewhere:

* Lavender Volumizing Shampoo
* Lavender Volumizing Conditioner
* Lavender Rosewood Bar Soap
* LavaDerm Cooling Mist
* Lavender Hand & Body Lotion
* Lavender Lip Balm
* Lavender Bath & Shower Gel

Order Young Living's lavender products today and start your path to a more natural life!

More cool facts about Lavender

Did you know…

* That the benefits of lavender essential oil date all the way back to Ancient Greece?
* That a study at the Chiba University Graduate School of Medicine in Japan suggests that, "Lavender aromatherapy has relaxation effects?"
* That lavender has the Latin name lavare, which means "to wash"?
* Young Living grows its own lavender at farms in Utah, Idaho, France, and Ecuador?
* That lavender blends well with other essential oils like cedarwood, clary sage, and geranium?
* That Shakespeare grew lavender in his garden and spoke of it in his writings, including a recipe for a lavender tea in The Winter's Tale?

Papaya Skin Care

Perk up your skin and eliminate the day’s worries with papaya. It’s beneficial for skin care and repair. You can use papaya to treat or eliminate old dead skin cells, dandruff and other skin disorders and even to reduce the signs of premature aging. The following recipes will show you how.

Acne: Apply a mask using the fleshy side of a green papaya skin on the acne. A papaya diet supports the treatment internally. Apply a mask of pickled grated papaya in vinegar once a week. Dilute papaya vinegar with water in a one to 10 ratio and use it as a skin cleanser. Treat stubborn areas with undiluted papaya vinegar and papaya oil.

Age spots: Place the fleshy side of the skin from a mature green papaya onto the age spots until the spots fade.

Dandruff: Shampoo hair with diluted papaya vinegar mixed with lemon juice and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse the hair with diluted papaya vinegar. Papaya hair shampoos are also available in health food stores.

Skin with enlarged pores: Washings or compresses with diluted papaya vinegar.

Skin, rough: Native Americans rub rough skin with the fleshy side of the skin from a ripe papaya.

Skin, unclear: For deep skin cleansing, apply a papaya mask followed by an application of papaya vinegar weekly, diluted with water in a one to 10 ratio.

Skin, hard: Repeatedly apply squeezed leaves or the fleshy side of the skin from a green fruit. For hard skin on the foot, use papaya vinegar in foot baths.

Sunspots: Apply the fleshy side of the skin from a green fruit to the spots. Also apply papaya vinegar to the spots.

Wrinkles: Old skin cells make wrinkles deeper. Use a papaya powder (sold in health food stores as "Paw-Paw Condiment") face mask to reduce old dead skin cells and to make the skin smoother. Apply the fleshy side of the skin from a green papaya.

In rare cases and with long-term application, highly concentrated papaya could cause sensitivity and skin irritation.

Papaya Vinegar

Cut the fruit (with the skin) into thin slices. Fill two-thirds of a glass jar with the papaya. Pour in apple cider vinegar until the papaya is well covered. Let mature for four weeks. Strain out the papaya and the vinegar is ready to use.

Papaya Oil

Cut the skin or leaves of a papaya into small pieces and place them into a pot (do not use an aluminum pot). Add enough extra-virgin olive oil to cover all the pieces. Simmer the oil for five minutes, then store the oil and plant parts in a cool place. After two days, extract the oil by squeezing the plant parts in a towel.

Skin Cleanser

3 Tbsp (45 mL) pure honey
1/2 tsp (2 mL) extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 tsp (2 mL) wheat germ oil
1 tsp (5 mL) papaya juice

Mix the ingredients together. Wash the skin with warm water. Gently massage the cleanser onto moist skin, then rinse well with water. Apply twice daily.

Skin Toner

2 tsp (10 mL) papaya vinegar
1/4 cup (60 mL) rose water
4 tsp (20 mL) lavender water

Mix the ingredients together. Use twice daily.

Moisturizing Oil

2 Tbsp (30 mL) papaya oil
4 tsp (20 mL) calendula oil
1 tsp (5 mL) almond oil
1 tsp (5 mL) rosehip oil

Mix the ingredients together. Gently massage into the skin twice daily.

Papaya Fruit Mask

1 tsp (5 mL) pure honey
1 egg
1 tsp (5 mL) cream
1 tsp (5 mL) papaya oil

Mix the ingredients together and apply to well-cleansed skin. Leave the mask on for 10 to 15 minutes. Thoroughly rinse the skin with warm water, apply papaya skin toner and then papaya moisturizing oil.

Bathing With Papaya

For these recipes, mix all the ingredients together. Add the oils to the bath water after filling the tub to prevent the essential oils from evaporating.

Relaxing Bath

1/2 (125 mL) papaya vinegar
1 tsp (5 mL) papaya oil
3 drops lavender essential oil
2 drops cedarwood essential oil

This is a good anti-stress bath and it nourishes the skin at the same time.

Pain-Relieving Bath

1/2 cup (125 mL) papaya vinegar
1 tsp (5 mL) papaya oil
3 drops lavender essential oil
2 drops rosemary essential oil

This bath is also excellent for muscle relaxation.

Refreshing Bath

1/2 cup (125 mL) papaya vinegar
1 tsp (5 mL) papaya oil
3 drops lavender essential oil
2 drops orange essential oil

This bath will leave you invigorated and refreshed.

Treat yourself to an exotic fruit facial or papaya bath experience–you’ll
never go back to the drugstore variety!
